Our Governors play a key role in our continued improvements, and bring a range of skills and expertise to our academy.

As someone who was born, educated and has worked in both the private and public sector in Calderdale all my life, I am delighted to be involved in governorship in both a secondary and primary academy. It is exciting and rewarding to be involved in Education that is making a difference to the lives of young people. I have experience in youth work and have seen first-hand the difference that being supported and nurtured in the right environment can make to young people. Special Education Needs is a key area of interest to me and I am passionate about students of all ages being given equal opportunities to progress to their full potential in their education. I see Akroydon Primary Academy as a school family where all staff and governors are committed to providing outstanding support and education for all students who are attending the academy.
Having lived in Halifax all my life I have an absolute passion for the area and care deeply about the education of our children and young people.  I have worked as a Business Manager in Calderdale schools for over 25 years and have a sound knowledge of primary education, finance and safeguarding.  I am an animal lover and like to spend my spare time surrounded by horses and dogs.  I enjoy going to the gym (reluctantly!) and reading is something I do to relax.

I am delighted to be serving on the governing body of Akroydon Primary Academy and I am keen to ensure the best possible outcomes for our children.  I look forward to working with my talented and professional colleagues who are fully committed to ensuring every child reaches their full potential.  I feel sure that we all, parents, governors and staff, share the vision of  seeing our school move forward, the children flourish and receive an outstanding education in a nurturing and vibrant environment.

I am very privileged to serve as a Governor at Akroydon Primary Academy and am excited about working with the school.  I have worked in education for over 15 years, with the last five years being as a Senior Leader in two local secondary schools. I have also previously been a Governor in another local primary academy.  In terms of school improvement, I have particular interests in curriculum design and quality assurance systems in ensuring overall standards are maintained.

I am a qualified teacher of Physical Education and am a keen sportsman and believe that enrichment is important in the shaping of our young people. I look forward to seeing what Akroydon Primary Academy offers the students in terms of extra-curricular activities.

Having worked in industry as an Accounts Manager for many years, I made the decision in 2003 to follow a long standing ambition – to contribute to the education of young people.  It is now 15 years since I made that decision and I have had the privilege of working with many well respected local leaders who passionately believe (as I do) that all children have the right to a great education, irrespective of their own personal background. A good education will open doors of opportunity for our students and allow them to reach their full potential in the years to come. I am excited and very much committed to supporting the school on its journey to ‘Outstanding’.
